It appears that a hacker infiltrated MasterCard's security codes and obtained way over 40 million
cards. MasterCard says that the breach has been detected by a company in Atlanta, Georgia that was
currently processing online transactions toward banks and commercial companies. MasterCard International
warns companies that any type of credit cards could be affected.
The company's card system, which detected the breach, has contacted the FBI to have them start an
immediate investigation. In the press release of the event MasterCard officials announced that hackers
were able to break into the card systems database because of the company's high security vulnerabilities.
Over 14 million master card owners could be affected by this, and also Visa announced that more than 22
million of its customers are also affected.
Because of poor managing on the behalf of this one company's card system, millions of people have been
exposed to possible online money theft issues, and maybe even identity theft.
Hackers today have developed so many methods to steal cards that companies can't always keep up with
them. Sometimes it isn't even about the company; it all depends on how nave the card holder is. We all
received various forms of spam e-mail; which requires us to enter in our credit card information in order
to get a free subscription for something. If you receive such an email don't give away your personal
information. Only enter card numbers and pin numbers on secure sites and before opening the link make
sure it's the exact address, 'cause some hackers have similar addresses to already known companies, so
they can trick you into giving them your information.
